Sound Amongst Other Sounds

An investigation into sound, space and emotion. Referencing classic soundtracks to Alfred Hitchcock films, this work takes as it's starting point the early use of electronic sounds and dissonant harmonies in films such as 'The Birds' and 'Psycho'. Using the neutral, white space of the gallery, the work responds to people's movement through the room, generating tones that combine in various arrangements dependant on the movement and number of people present. In this way the same space has the potential to have any number of different sonic moods, revealing the relationship between a scene and the sound contained within it.
